TEMPLES & ANCIENT RUINS
Home of the famous 150 foot Reclining Buddha!
Wat Po is listed by the Thai government as the finest of all the royal temples in Thailand. I have visited it numerous times over the last 30 years and am continually amazed at it's beauty & grandeur! Built in the 16th century on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, it houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand and is the birthplace of traditional Thai Massage.
The "Temple of Dawn" or Stone Temple
Directly across the river from Wat Po we will visit Bangkok's iconic 280 ft. tall, stone, "Temple of Dawn"!
The Ancient Capital of Thailand
Founded in the 14th century and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ayutthaya was once one of the world's richest cities and at it's height housed close to 1 million people making it the largest city in the world at that time. Only a 1 hour drive from our riverside hotel in Bangkok, a visit to the wonderful temple ruins at Ayutthaya will serve as a fun day trip on our Chi Gong, Tai Chi & Temples tour!
KHAO SAN ROAD MARKET
Fantastic Shopping & Nightlife
Just a couple of blocks from our hotel is possibly the worlds most elaborate Backpacker & International Travelers market and entertainment district. Great food... great souvenirs... great massages... and spectacular people watching!
You won't find many tourists in this cluster of Buddha warehouses that I stumbled onto decades ago..... only row after row of "hundreds" of (larger than life) gold Buddhas preparing to be sold to temples. It's quite an otherworldly sight...and a great place to purchase a Buddha statue at wholesale prices!
A little known "locals" market
Lad Mayom Floating Market is very popular among locals but little known to tourists. The laid back charm and authenticity of Lad Mayom defines what makes riverside markets such a pleasurable experience.
ANGKOR HISTORICAL PARK
The peak of our temple touring experience!
Will come as we arrive in Cambodia. The amazing temples of the Angkor complex built in the early 12th century were originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu but soon were transformed to the worship of Buddhism. They are particularly stunning not just in their architecture & sheer size.... but also because of the highly detailed bas-relief stone carvings of historical & religious scenes...and beautiful "Apsara Dancers" (dancing spirits) that seemingly cover almost every inch of their surface!
"City of Temples"
The most well known and best-preserved temple in this thousand-year-old temple complex....once the largest city in the world....is a World Heritage site and.... The largest religious monument on Earth! On my most recent trip there I found 2 spectacular places for us to do Chi Gong & Tai Chi directly within the Temple so that we can really experience its power and beauty!
Huge Buddha Heads Everywhere
This spectacular temple about a kilometer away was built shortly after Angkor Wat.... is many times its size and offers a large variety of temple buildings & features. Check out the latest profound, "history changing" discovery at Angkor here:
ANGKOR NATIONAL MUSEUM
The "Room of 1000 Buddhas"
To add depth to our experience of the Angkor Wat temples we will be visiting this modern museum across the street from our hotel. The museum covers the golden era of the Khmer Empire. Through its 8 galleries, it explores Khmer history, art, civilization, and cultural heritage. It also houses The "Room of 1000 Buddhas".
The "Tomb Raider" Temple
About 2 km. away from Angkor Wat this temple.... which you may recognize from the Hollywood, Angelina Jolie movie "Tomb Raider".... has been left in the condition that it was found.... with huge rainforest trees stretching their roots out across its walls in a visually stunning manner!
Relax & Rejuvenate!
Our visit to Cambodia will include a relaxing massage.
Dining, Nightlife & Souvenirs
This attractive small city is just 5 minutes from our hotel and is filled with great restaurants, entertainment & souvenir shops within its bustling tourist district which sits along the picturesque small river that runs through the town.
